Activities of Daily Living (ADL)

In the ADL class students will learn non visual adaptive techniques necessary to perform daily living tasks.  For instance, in the kitchen they will learn how to use the stove top and oven safely.  They will learn to use tactile or talking timers as well as ways to measure liquids and solids accurately.  Other tips and techniques that will be covered include techniques for using a knife safely, ways to mark appliances so that they can be used independently, how to use a check writing guide, efficient ways to sweep and vacuum floors, ways to label and organize items in a cupboard, how to sew tactile buttons on clothing in order to indicate what color the item is and many, many more.  Students will wear sleep shades during class to enhance their ability to learn the non-visual techniques.
